BLACKKKLANSMAN Trailer

BlacKkKlansman is the first Spike Lee film in a while to get people talking, and his second film to compete at the Cannes Film Festival in a big way. While his recent films, Old Boy and Chi-Raq, have been pretty divisive, this seems like the film that will put him back on the map.

Based on the incredible true story of an African-American detective Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) who managed to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan using his white partner Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver) as a decoy this is a perfect fit for Spike Lee. During a nine month period, Stallworth managed to become a member of the KKK as well as the leader of a local chapter. He even talked to then-Grand Wizard David Duke (Topher Grace) on the phone. Interestingly enough, the real Stallworth never even spoke about the case until his retirement in 2006. He put out a book about the investigation called Black Klansman in 2014.

Considering the current Trump regime has caused many to feel like white nationalism has taken hold of the country, this seems like a film in the same vein as last year’s hit Get Out which was a film that covered similar subject matter. This is probably one of the reasons Jordan Peele decided to co-produce this film. The trailer certainly goes out of its way to show there’s a connection between Trump and his use of the slogan America First and the tradition of white ethnocentric nationalism that was championed by people like David Duke in the ’70s.

BlacKkKlansman is directed by Spike Lee and stars John David Washington, Adam Driver, Topher Grace, Laura Harrier and Corey Hawkins. It will be released in the U.K. on August 24th, 2018 and in the U.S. on August 10th, 2018. For international release dates click here.
