ABDUCT Trailer

Abduct

Ever wonder what would happen if Alice brought Wonderland to the real world? Instead of rabbits and mad hatters, though, Abduct gives you creepy shadows and aliens. Oh my! A little orphan girl attempts to escape otherworldly forces in a little town called Fate, Texas. Unbeknownst to this town is that evil has followed the little girl and it intends to stay. Odd things start happening. There’s no one and nothing you can trust. This is a trailer for Abduct.

This coming sci-fi thriller is directed by Ilyas Kaduji. It stars former heavyweight boxing contender “Irish” Jack O’ Halloran and the seductive Sienna Guillory. From the beginning, we are introduced to Guillory’s character Angelica Dark. She is dressed fashionably well in an evocative blood-red dress with a very pale white skin tone. This is in contrast to everyone else in the trailer whom are wearing (by assumption) normal Texan-wear. Her demeanor is confident and slightly creepy. Creepy in that she tilts her head while keeping her eyes deadlocked on the little girl. She moves ever closer just to playfully touch her nose and almost warn the child she should “be a good girl” or suffer nightmares. If anything, Ms. Dark is very likely one of the more important characters, or Satan.

There’s this unwritten rule in any form of storytelling that focuses on showing rather than telling. Understandably, a trailer is created for the purpose of condensing large volumes of material. My gripe is the direct use of words like “night terror”, “shadow people”, or “men in black”. Those words mean nothing without a clear understanding of their threat or importance. Yes, these creatures are mysterious but that doesn’t warrant justification of the danger they seem to pose on the townspeople. The shadow people, for example, are living shadows but they don’t seem to be able to hurt people or even spirit them away. On a side note: for any mention of “men in black”, I , like most people will think “Will Smith”.

Speaking of Will Smith and this is the nerd in me talking, I noticed the character, Crystal, has another set of eyes. She blinked a normal set and then a completely different set. This is, of course, my observation in reference to the original men in black but I just maybe pushing my luck. Regardless, the character comes off as inconsistent. One scene has her meditating in front of a video-camera, another scene has her under direct light in anticipation of abduction, and another has her looking directly at our POV until her second set of eyes appears. This would suggest she is gradually turned by the supernatural entity.

Overall, the film looks interesting and I hope to see more before its release.

Abduct comes to U.S theaters soon in 2015. No hard date is set yet.
