Oh, woe was us when the Harry Potter series finally finished… Little was sadder than those final scenes of the 8th movie, where you knew that this time the ending was final. With the books all long finished even before the movies and Pottermore being sadly unsatisfying for anyone over 12 years old, the Harry Potter universe had truly come to an end.

But in this day and age where sequels and remakes are what makes the big money, and Harry Potter being one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood history, we also kind of sort of knew the end hadn’t truly come. With the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we are getting a whole new chance to dress up, take your wand and House-coloured scarf to the cinemas, and fly that Harry Potter freak flag!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an adaptation of one of the (two) small companion books that J.K. Rowling wrote in 2001. The book was purported to be Harry Potter’s own copy of this textbook in his first year (it’s mentioned in “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”) – it even included some seemingly handwritten notes by Harry and Ron. Newt Scamander was the wizard who wrote the textbook – but fear not, the movie will not be like a textbook at all.

Newt Scamander is played by Eddie Redmayne, who arrives at the Magical Congress of the U.S.A., for a meeting with an important official. Scamander carries around a magical briefcase that houses a number of dangerous beasts. They, of course, escape. Alongside Redmayne, Colin FarrellKatherine Waterston and Ron Perlman will make appearances.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is directed by David Yates, who also directed the last four in the Harry Potter series. J.K. Rowling penned the script for this one, which is a first! Audiences in the US and UK can expect release on 18 November 2016. Find international release dates here.

Did you read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? What house would you be sorted into if you were a true wizard in the HP Universe?

I’m in Ravenclaw if you must know.
