FIRST MAN Trailer

Music is out and space is in with Damien Chazelle’s First Man, a biopic of Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon.

Delving into the years preceding the historic mission, the film will cover the personal and professional life of Armstrong and the many people who helped get him to that big moment. We all know the legendary words he’ll speak when he exits the spacecraft, but the passing time has made it easy to forget how uncertain the whole mission was. Death and disaster punctuated its run-up, and as you can see in this trailer, many questioned whether the payoff would be worth the risk.

The film is quite a departure for Chazelle, who made his name with jazzy movies like Whiplash and La La Land. A period, effects-laden film from one of the writers behind awards bait like Spotlight and The Post surely presented new challenges for the youngest Academy Award-winning director, but it does set him up to add to his trophy shelf.

Joining him again is Ryan Gosling, who looks to continue their shared success with La La Land. He’s backed up by Claire Foy, Kyle Chandler, and a deep cast that will bring all the familiar names to life.

It’s a star-studded project that’s aiming for, well, the stars, and that puts a big target on its back. Hopefully it can live up to its potential.

First Man is directed by Damien Chazelle and stars Ryan GoslingClaire Foy, and Jason Clarke. It will be released in the US and the UK on October 12th, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
