GOING IN STYLE Trailer

Going in Style is an upcoming comedy about three old men, Al, Joe and Willie (Alan Arkin, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman respectively) who decide to become bank robbers after their former employer decides to freeze their pension payments. The film is a remake of the 1979 movie which starred George Burns, Art Carney and Lee Strassberg.

Going in Style is part of a larger trend of movies in the last few years about old people getting together for a (final) heist or party of some sort. Examples of this include Last Vegas, The Maiden Heist, Stand Up Guys and the two Red movies. Apart from these movies there has also been an increase in action movies starring older leading men recently such as the Taken trilogy, the Bad Ass trilogy, 3 Days to KillThe Gunman and the Expendables trilogy.

So, the three men decide to rob banks but only for the money they’re owed, the rest of it they decide to give to charity. This is a plot that is reminiscent of a movie like the 1987 Emilio Estevez vehicle Wisdom which was all about robbing banks to help out poor farmers. In a way they consider themselves modern day Robin Hoods. Going in Style looks like it will be a fun watch with plenty of nods to other movies such as the fact that the three men wear Point Break-style Presidential masks during their robberies.

Going in Style is directed by Zach Braff and stars Alan Arkin, Michael Caine, Matt Dillon, Morgan Freeman, Christopher Lloyd, John Ortiz and Peter Serafinowicz. It will be released in the U.S. and the U.K. on April 7th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
