GUARDIANS Trailer

I’ve entered a phase of my life where I’m just so bored with English movies unless they’re superhero movies or indie flicks. Hence, I’m looking outside U.S. borders where producers hold less sway to put sponsored products in, or mess with the original script. I want to fall in love like I used to when I watched movies as a kid. Unfortunately, that probably won’t happen, unless I hit the jackpot or make my own film. Expect a 2030 release but until then I will introduce to you the trailer for Zashchitniki, otherwise known as Guardians.

Guardians  is directed by Armenian director Sarik Andresyan. It stars Anton Pampushniy and Alina Lanina. If you don’t know who these actors are, that’s okay. Neither do I and that’s the best part in allowing new actors their chance to build a rapport with you. This film is defined as a neo-noir superhero film set in an alternate history Cold War between the U.S. and Soviet Union. In this version of history, a group of superheroes are created representing the different nationalities of the USSR. They are led by the organization “Patriot.” Their enemy seeks to capture Moscow in preparation for the entire world using an army of clones and his “Modul-1” which allows him to control any technical equipment. So there you have it, a kind of Watchmen not directed by Zack Snyder. Honestly, that’s good enough for me.

Let’s start out with visuals first. Nothing new, yes, but I’m impressed nonetheless because they allow for mystery. We see a werebear transforming but we don’t know who the guy is. There are no superhero faces showing off that this is so and so actor. There now exists curiosity in wanting to know these people and understand their powers. Additionally there are cool things like that guy who slices a column and punches through a brick wall. There is a lot of proper imagery here like the chain breaking or the rushed pace at a minute in. It leads you to assume change is going to occur and that’s exactly when the super powers get showcased. It’s excitement in anticipation of something. That’s not as common as I would like it to be in most movies I see nowadays.

I have some information on the characters too. My favorite is Khan, the Windman, who is a martial artist that cuts cleanly with his blades and punches through bricks walls. We also have a werebear/ berserker named Arsus in the mix that can control which parts of his body transform. If you were like me, you assumed the guy moving rocks was like Professor X. Wrong! Think Earthbender not interpreted by M. Night Shyamalan and his terrible movie. Finally, we have the only girl I’m aware of in this film and she’s a better version of Aquaman.

Now, the thing is that it was a teaser. Everything looks touched up. I don’t know if anything used here will be in the actual film but I keep my fingers crossed.

It will open December 2016 in Russia. No hard dates or other releases are currently available. If the fact it is only opening in Russia hinders you, the internet will surely offer alternatives. Or wait for the DVD release.
