JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 Teaser Trailer

John Wick is returning to satiate your action needs, following up the 2014 series opener John Wick with the simply titled John Wick: Chapter 2. A third film is already in development, so get your bets in early for whether the series will retain its uniform names.

If the original is any indication, then this frankness is more a trademark than a detriment. John Wick, after all, was just a bare bones revenge story with crisp action sequences. In a cinematic age where violence is often frenetic or obscured, its outbreaks of gunplay and hand-to-hand combat were thrillingly clear and matter-of-fact. That was enough to win over a strong core of devoted fans, hence the confidence in a continuing series.

With both writer Derek Kolstad and director Chad Stahelski returning for Chapter 2, don’t expect anything less from the sequel. While it has lost David Leitch, the uncredited co-director of the first, Stahelski should be perfectly fine on his own thanks to a long history of second unit direction and stunt work.

Keanu Reeves enjoyed a career rejuvenation when he first starred as the deadly hitman in tailored suits, and his second outing will have a wink to his and Stahelski’s history with The Matrix series. Laurence Fishburne a.k.a. Morpheus will be popping up, with Ruby Rose and Common also joining the carnage. Returning players include Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Bridget Moynahan.

The numerous holdovers should keep John Wick: Chapter 2 on target for another heavy dose of action. Fans will likely be delighted by the consistency, but they probably wouldn’t mind less puppy death.

John Wick: Chapter 2 is directed by Chad Stahelski and stars Keanu Reeves, Common, and Bridget Moynahan. It will be released in the U.S. on February 10th, 2017 and in the U.K. on February 17th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
