LOGAN LUCKY Trailer
Steven Soderbergh’s retirement turned out to be short-lived, as his work on Cinemax’s The Knick and the script for a working class heist film has lured the director back to feature work.
Logan Lucky looks like the best of Soderbergh’s audience-friendly films, with a large ensemble milking the flashy premise for all it’s worth. The director has never shied away from fun material, be it the stripteasing Magic Mike or the indignant biopic Erin Brockovich. However, Logan Lucky most resembles his Ocean’s Trilogy, replacing the sophisticated casino robbers with a construction worker, a one-handed bartender, and a pile of NASCAR money.
The project reunites Soderbergh with frequent star Channing Tatum, but he and everyone else in the cast takes a backseat here to Daniel Craig. It’s hard to miss Craig’s platinum locks and scenery chewing humor, which may stem from his character being the smartest of the idiots. Whatever he ends up being, it looks like the polar opposite of Craig’s dour Bond.
Many will cheer for the return of Soderbergh, but after leaving features in a huff over the industry’s changing business model, he’s testing a new approach to film marketing for Logan Lucky (click here for an interview where he discusses this with Collider). That may be why you haven’t heard a ton about Logan Lucky, but really, there’s no need for a hard sell with a movie like this.
Logan Lucky is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig, Adam Driver, and Riley Keough. It will be released in the U.S. on August 18th, 2017 and in the U.K. on August 25th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
