MORGAN Teaser Trailer

MORGAN Teaser Trailer

Maybe someday A.I. won’t try to kill us or break our hearts. Maybe we’ll settle into a comfortable existence with our robotic creations and there will no longer be feverish movies about the future. However, until we find out how the technological revolution will shake out, expect to regularly get movies like Morgan.

This is a well-constructed little teaser with carefully chosen, ominous words like ‘self-sustaining’ and ‘special’ mixed with a building cacophony of sound. This tips you off that it’s a thriller even before the blood shows up, and the early name drop of Ridley Scott gets viewers salivating for his most successful films in the genre. However, Ridley is just a producer here, with his son Luke Scott making his feature directing debut.

The cast is just as intriguing, with Kate Mara appearing as a risk-management consultant who must decide whether the Morgan project should continue. You never get a clear look at the titular creation in this teaser, but she is played by The Witch lead Anya Taylor-Joy. This one-two punch of genre pieces is beginning to feel like how Maika Monroe broke out in 2014/2015 with The Guest and It Follows, and she capitalized on that by landing a role in the upcoming Independence Day: Resurgence. Taylor-Joy’s two films are more high profile than Monroe’s, and it’ll be interesting to see where this success takes her.

The rest of the cast looks like a stellar group of recognizable faces, and they were clearly working with a healthy budget to get the stylish look seen in the teaser. If you’re like me, this trailer dropped from out of nowhere, but you’re damn happy to have another quality film in the genre to look forward to.

Morgan is directed by Luke Scott and stars Kate Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Toby Jones. It will be released in the U.S. on September 2nd, 2016. For international release dates, click here.
