Film Analysis For Beginners Now On Amazon

You may have already spotted our announcement on Twitter, or in the widget on the sidebar here on the Film Inquiry website, but let’s also officially announce it:

My book, Film Analysis for Beginners: How to Analyse Movies is now available on Amazon!

I’m extremely excited to finally bring you this book! It’s based on my (still) very popular How to Analyse Movies series here on Film Inquiry; it’s basically a collection of those articles, yet improved and expanded!

A hands-on guide into film analysis

Film Analysis For Beginners will be helpful to anyone who has been eager to explore film a little further. It’s for people who haven’t had any formal film education, as I know there are a lot of people out there who are eager to go a bit more in-depth.

It will also be helpful for people who, like me, are trying to incorporate film studies into their non-film study research. I started digging into film analysis when I was working on my criminology master’s dissertation, and found that there’s very few hands-on guides on how to perform film analysis.

That’s basically what this book is: a guide into performing film analysis. I explain the basic concepts of film language and how to “read” films. It’ll be a handy guide to use when you’re watching a film; you’ll learn what to look for and what steps to take before, during and after watching a film.

What this book doesn’t do is tell you how to process your findings; that depends wholly on the purpose of your film analysis. Nonetheless, it will be highly useful for any budding film critic who would like to learn more about film, and to write reviews that go a bit further than praising the performance of X actor.

It’s always been my purpose, with Film Inquiry as well as with this book, to help people understand film better, to further explore and appreciate the beautiful art form it is.

At this time, Film Analysis For Beginners costs only US$5, so it’s pretty much a bargain.
