OCEAN’S 8 Trailer

The Ocean’s franchise won’t quit, which means we’re getting another star-studded heist with a slight twist.

The ladies have taken over in this soft reboot of Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Trilogy, this time with Sandra Bullock’s Debbie Ocean trying to pull one off under the lights of the Met Gala. The mechanics of how it will all go down is key to the fun, so they wisely don’t get into specifics in this trailer. There’s something about a necklace and revenge, though, and the mixing of personal and professional motivations likely won’t sit well with the group.

Gary Ross has taken on the directing reigns, and he has much to live up to after Soderbergh’s slick, satisfying trilogy. His directing jobs have been a bit all over the place in terms of genre and quality, with his work being criticized in The Hunger Games and rewarded in Seabiscuit. It’s hard to tell if he’ll try to strike a new path or keep things familiar with Ocean’s 8, but really, he just needs to trust that his cast will carry the film through.

After all, he’s got Bullock and Cate Blanchett at the top with a cavalcade of familiar faces backing them up. Having famous people constantly popping up is a trademark of the series, so as long as Ross keeps the cameos and the scheming moving, Ocean’s 8 should be another enjoyable entry in the franchise.

Ocean’s 8 is directed by Gary Ross and stars Sandra BullockCate Blanchett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina and Anne Hathaway. It will be released in the U.S. on June 8th, 2018 and in the U.K. on June 22nd, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
