SULLY Trailer

Sometimes the right person ends up at the right place at the right time. Whether you believe in chaos or destiny, it’s moments we all recognize as miraculous, and one of those moments happened when Sully Sullenberger safely landed a commercial jet on the Hudson River. People immediately pinned an exorbitant amount of hope on the incident, and Sullenberger unwittingly became an American hero. No one asked if he wanted it, but aviation investigators did ask if he deserved it, making the incident an excellent taking off point for Sully.

And who better to play the everyday hero than Tom Hanks, who has quite a few similar roles under his belt. He pairs up for the first time with director Clint Eastwood, who’s been hit-or-miss with his last few features, but shares with Hanks a special talent for capturing unassuming heroes. Sullenberger’s story should safely avoid the pro-war and fake baby headlines that plagued Eastwood’s last film, American Sniper. If Sully turns out well, it could be hailed as his unequivocal return to form.

The film was shot almost entirely with IMAX cameras, just beating out the upcoming Avengers: Infinity Wars films as the first to do so. This should help the flight sequence play out with seat-gripping tension, which must match or exceed the expertly done sequence in Flight. It’s a tall order, but Eastwood knows his way around a thrilling scene. It’s not hard to image this movie soaring higher than the doomed flight ever did.

Sully is directed by Clint Eastwood and stars Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, and Laura Linney. It will be released in the U.S. on September 9th, 2016 and in the U.K. on December 2nd, 2016. For international release dates, click here.
