THE CURRENT WAR Trailer
The Current War is an upcoming film about the infamous late 19th century War of Currents between Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon). The War of Currents was a battle for supremacy on the electricity market between Edison’s low voltage direct current format and Westinghouse’s alternating current format. The man that owned the prevailing electricity distribution system would become incredibly important and wealthy which meant the stakes were incredibly high.
The Current War has been in development for 5 years with names like Timur Bekmambetov, Jake Gyllenhaal and Ben Stiller attached to it at various times. Considering the names that were attached to this project, as well as the ones that are in the final version, it’ll be interesting to see whether the final product justifies their interest.
The Current War is directed by Alfsonso Gomez-Rejon and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Shannon and Tom Holland. It will be released in the U.S. on November 24th, 2017 and in the U.K. on January 5th 2018. For international release dates click here.
