TRIPLE 9 Trailer

Eh, these guys are cool. I’ve recently begun changing the characters I recognize from other films or media and putting them into these trailers. So my current line up stars Daryl Dixon, Jesse Pinkman, Tallahassee (or Haymitch Abernathy to some of you), Falcon, Clementine Kruczynski and Ben Affleck’s little brother. All of these people hopefully equal a halfway decent movie. At any rate, they’re great talent and are probably the biggest selling point for this film.

This crime drama is directed by John Hillcoat. It also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gal Gadot. As this story goes, a gang of criminals and corrupt cops plan a different cop’s murder. All of this is in order to pull of a big heist across town. With this lineup, the good guys are in for bad time.

The first thing I’m thinking about is the bank heist option in Grand Theft Auto V. It’s like some guy was playing online, then thought “I could make a movie off this.” That’s the first scene of the trailer with the bad driving, red dye mist and shooting guns without any regard. Let’s not forget the combustion of the car. These are GTA elements and a GTA storyline with GTA characters. Notice Clifton Collins Jr’s character in the quote “ Don’t have a problem taking out a cop, I’d do a cop just like…” Psychotic people think like that. Trevor from GTA V thinks like that.

Ignore this paragraph if you didn’t notice the obvious spoilers. As a film, it looks interesting but the trailer already reveals too much. We know the sacrificial lamb is most likely Casey Affleck. The film tells us the heist team failed in a previous attempt and has to make it up to the female crime boss or get executed. One of the heist members is in a relationship with the sister of the crime boss. The other heist member (Falcon) is a criminal and a cop who is either the catalyst for the plan to go off or fail because he’ll have a change of heart somewhere along the way. Then we have Woody Harrelson to represent for the good guys..or is he? I’m hoping they don’t Shyamalan anything out of left field.

The visual style looks adequate but I don’t sense a theme other than realism I guess. There’s nothing outstanding about the visuals other than the green gun pointed to Ejiofor’s head at 52 seconds. Their time in, what I assume is a night club, kind of resembles hell but that just may be my personal interpretation of nightclubs. Each character is covered in red light and they come up with the 999 plan at that moment. I mentioned the heist scene in the beginning with the red dye, that could be interpreted as the crew having “blood on their hands” or any other similar symbolism. Either way, it’s still a decent highway scene.

Triple 9 comes out February 19th, 2016 in both the U.K. and U.S. For the full list, click here.
