HOW TO BE SINGLE Trailer

The dating scene scares me. That is because I’m a simple man with simple tastes. Is it really too much to ask for a woman who enjoys role playing and tying me up? TMI? I don’t know what that is. Anyway, there are so many rituals and signs that I can’t keep up with. Oh, she likes me? What do I do? Grind against her on the dance floor? That doesn’t seem legal. This film I’m going to talk to you about just increases the anxiety. This is the trailer for How to Be Single.

This romantic comedy is directed by Christian Ditter. It stars Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Leslie Mann and Alison Brie. It’s based on the book of the same name, written by Liz Tuccillo.

New York City is apparently full of lonely hearts and the subject of this story, Alice (Johnson), is on the wrong side of single. Somewhere in between the inane texts and one-night stands, single people have one thing in common. They need to learn to enjoy being single in a world bombarded with ever-evolving definitions of love. Sleeping around has never been so much fun or awkward.

Let’s start with what takes the most attention from the screen, Rebel Wilson. In this trailer, she takes all the attention from the other actors and plot. At some point, you think this film is about Wilson’s one-liners rather than this whole being single shtick. Punching someone’s boob and coming up with names for female pubic hair is all good fun but leave a little breathing room. Some of us may actually be interested in this whole “how to be single” thing.

As with other comedies, emphasis is generally not put on film techniques. As long as it is visually appealing, it’s good enough to release to general audiences. The whole thing is being sold based on jokes and the belief you will find common ground with the four main actresses.

As the trailer rolls on, another thought enters my mind. Is this another version of Sex in the City? Will there be the cliched carriage ride through Central Park? Fortunately, there are no horses in sight. It’s just awkward conversations, Rebel Wilson, Alice walking alone symbolizing her solitude in New York, Rebel Wilson, simulated sex moment, and then Rebel Wilson in a towel. What the heck are you trying to do, trailer? It’s a lot of Rebel Wilson.

Rebel Wilson comes to U.S theaters February 12th, 2016 and U.K. theatres February 19th, 2016. For a list of release dates, click Rebel Wilson.

Tell us your Rebel Wilson! Has this name already started to lose meaning for you? Say something often enough… It does have a ring to it. Rebel Wilson. Rebel Wilson. Rebel Wilson.
