MARK FELT: THE MAN WHO BROUGHT DOWN THE WHITE HOUSE Trailer

Liam Neeson has more than a particular set of skills, and he’ll show that off as the titular star of Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House.

The wordy title gives the gist of the story, but for the sake of clarity, this is about Watergate, and Mark Felt was The Washington Post’s infamous Deep Throat informant. It’s an event well-covered by past films, but with the current state of American politics, revisiting an FBI investigation involving the sitting president will undoubtedly be seen in a different light.

Setting politics aside, this is a welcome return to prestige dramas for Neeson, whose career took an unexpected detour into action star territory. His small part in last year’s Silence was a refreshing tease, but Mark Felt has him roaring back to Schindler’s List and Kinsey territory. Remember, for all of Neeson’s well-earned respect, he hasn’t taken home any of the major industry awards, and that feels long past due.

Former journalist turned filmmaker Peter Landesman writes and directs this timely look at the past, and as to whether it can gain a foothold during awards season, we’ll just have to wait until its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival later this month.

Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House is directed by Peter Landesman and stars Liam NeesonDiane Lane, and Maika Monroe. It will be released in the U.S. on September 29th, 2017. Further release dates are not currently known.
