Mission: Impossible – Fallout is the sixth film to be released in the 20 years since Tom Cruise breathed new life into the property which started out as a TV series in the 1960s. Over the years Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has become the closest thing to an American James Bond. His frequent brushes with death in the service of the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) are the stuff of legends. This time around Hunt is on the run from the CIA, personified by Angela Bassett and Henry Cavill, who believe Hunt may have intentionally botched a mission which has resulted in a box of plutonium falling into the wrong hands.

Before the first trailer for Mission: Impossible – Fallout was released the film mostly garnered attention due to two things: Tom Cruise breaking his ankle while filming and Henry Cavill‘s mustache. When Justice League was released much was made about the bad CGI that was used to erase Cavill‘s mustache as Paramount wouldn’t allow him to shave it off.

As is the case with all Mission: Impossible films, Fallout looks like an action packed film featuring car crashes as well as political intrigue. Considering the fact Tom Cruise is not getting any younger it’ll be interesting to see what happens to the Mission: Impossible franchise going forward. How much longer will Cruise continue to put himself through the torture of making these films? And do we even want him to? Cruise has much more to offer than his stunt work. It’s been a while but this is the same actor that used to star in films like Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia and Collateral.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout is directed by Christopher McQuarrie and stars Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin, Vanessa Kirby, Sian Brooke and Angela Bassett. It will be released in the U.K. and the U.S. on July 27th, 2018. For international release dates click here.
