ON THE BASIS OF SEX Trailer

Nobody can get enough Ruth Bader Ginsburg, so the biopic of her extraordinary life, On the Basis of Sex, is on its way to theaters.

The film focuses on a younger, pre-US Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg as she goes through law school and struggles to establish herself in the workplace. As the trailer points out, she wasn’t just up against professional sexism but deeply rooted cultural and legal discrimination. She’s never been one to let wrongs sit, though, so she positioned herself to take a landmark court case that would challenge all of these ridiculous norms.

On the Basis of Sex marks the return to the big screen for director Mimi Leder, who’s been working in television for almost twenty years after one of her films underperformed. She was at the fore of Hollywood after hits like The Peacemaker and Deep Impact, but the sharp criticism leveled at Pay It Forward and the tiny margin of error for female filmmakers derailed her feature career. It’s hardly a surprise, then, that she was drawn to the story of a woman who fought against such unfair double standards.

A high profile project like this attracted top talent in front of the camera as well, with Felicity Jones starring as Ruth and Armie Hammer as her husband, Marty. Smaller parts are also filled out by recognizable faces, and with all of these people coming together around such a beloved figure, this will be a hard film to ignore.

On the Basis of Sex is directed by Mimi Leder and stars Felicity Jones, Armie Hammer, and Justin Theroux. It will be released in the US on December 25th, 2018 and in the UK on January 4th, 2019. For international release dates, click here.
