THEIR FINEST Trailer

There’s jokes to be made about the latest British ensemble movie calling itself Their Finest, but my guess is that the filmmakers put the title in as an intentional wink. The film is about filmmaking, after all, and we all know that comes with a certain amount of self-congratulatory back-patting.

But Their Finest is washing it down with gloss and humor, a formula so thoroughly British that we may as well just call it charming and move on. You know if you like Love, Actually or not, and I’m guessing your taste for that kind of film will be a good barometer for whether you’ll enjoy or roll your eyes at Their Finest.

With the requisite light meaning (feminism good) and some gruff outrage from Bill Nighy, the movie is here to make you laugh and feel good. I’m guess the blitz won’t even get too serious, and its brand of patriotism is so portable that they’re already trying to sell the movie within the movie to foreign audiences.

The steady hand of director Lone Scherfig (An Education) and familiar stars like Gemma Arterton and Sam Claflin make this an almost surefire hit. The only question is just how far Their Finest will go.

Their Finest is directed by Lone Scherfig and stars Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin, and Bill Nighy. It will be released in the U.S. on April 7th, 2017 and in the U.K. on April 21st, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
