AVENGERS: ENDGAME Trailer

The MCU is eyeing a climax with Avengers: Endgame, the culmination of over ten years of world-building and what will likely be the last film in the series for some of its biggest stars.

The mood is decidedly somber in this first trailer, which is inevitable since Thanos (Josh Brolin) wiped out half of all life in Avengers: Infinity War. As Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and the remaining heroes try to deal with the emotional fallout (again, many of these characters have been developed for ten years, so there’s lots of fallout), they also need to scramble to save what they can. This trailer thankfully doesn’t get into the details of that plan, but I’m sure it will involve the new and old members of the MCU combining for some of their biggest battles yet.

The necessity to pass the torch is upon the series, and they’ve done well to establish new powerhouses that will take the place of exiting heroes. There’s little doubt Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) will play a key role, but she’s being withheld for now, presumably until she is properly introduced in her standalone film.

She’s not the only thing being withheld, though. There’s sure to be lots of humor mixed in, too, as is customary with any MCU film. We are reminded of this in the trailer’s coda, where Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) awkwardly shows up to help.

Infinity War directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo return for this film, so expect their usual deftness at mixing universe-level peril with workplace comedy. After all, these characters’ jobs are to save the universe, so they can’t take it completely seriously. And frankly, none of us want them to, either.

Avengers: Endgame is directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo and stars the five million huge names who have appeared in the series (you know, Robert Downey Jr.Chris HemsworthMark RuffaloChris EvansScarlett Johansson, etc.). It will be released in the US and the UK on April 26th, 2019. For international release dates, click here.
