A man finds a different kind of peace in Clean, the latest from co-writer/director Paul Solet.

In many ways, this is a tale as old as time. Clean is the loaded name of a garbage man with a shady past. One notes his potential for violence early in this trailer, but also his longing for a different life. He’s trying to build the latter by making a living as a garbage man, but when a teenage girl he keeps an eye out for falls in with a crowd she can’t escape from, he’s presented with an opportunity for redemption by using his old tricks.

So many elements of this plot is rehashing of well-worn tropes, which isn’t necessarily surprising given the team behind it. Adrien Brody stars as the titular Clean, but this also marks his first foray into writing. He co-wrote the film with Solet after they worked together on the 2017 film Bullet Head. That movie didn’t exactly get rave reviews, but apparently, their working relationship proved strong enough to team up again.

And you know what? This story is familiar because it works, bringing together action, drama, and a bit of melancholy. As long as the filmmakers balance these elements appropriately, these films turn out just fine. Hopefully, this duo will get it right.

Clean is directed by Paul Solet and stars Adrien Brody, Glenn Fleshler, and Chandler DuPont. It will be released in the US on January 28th, 2022. Further release dates are not currently known.
